10th Grade Equivalency Exam UK Syllabus

UK Syllabus (10th Grade Equivalent) for Science & Maths

This is a standard syllabus for a student aiming to pursue A-Levels in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry.

1. GCSE Mathematics

  • Number:

    • Structure and calculation, Fractions, decimals, and percentages, Measures and accuracy.

  • Algebra:

    • Notation, vocabulary and manipulation, Graphs, Solving equations and inequalities, Sequences.

  • Ratio, Proportion, and Rates of Change:

    • Ratio, Proportion, Rates of change, Compound measures.

  • Geometry and Measures:

    • Properties and constructions, Mensuration and calculation, Vectors.

  • Probability:

    • Basic probability, Combined events.

  • Statistics:

    • Data collection, Data presentation and interpretation, Data analysis.

Assessment: Typically 3 written papers (non-calculator and calculator).

2. GCSE Combined Science (Trilogy) or Separate Sciences

Students can take either:

  • GCSE Combined Science (Recommended): Worth two GCSEs, covering Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.

  • GCSE Separate Sciences: Three distinct GCSEs in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics (more in-depth).

GCSE Chemistry Syllabus (as part of Combined or Separate Sciences):

  • Atomic structure and the Periodic Table

  • Bonding, structure, and the properties of matter

  • Chemical changes and Reactivity series

  • Energy changes in chemistry

  • Rates of reaction and equilibrium

  • Organic chemistry and Chemical analysis

  • Chemistry of the atmosphere and Using resources

  • Practical Skills: Required core practicals are embedded throughout the course.

GCSE Physics Syllabus (as part of Combined or Separate Sciences):

  • Energy and Energy resources

  • Particle model of matter
