Semester-wise syllabus For an M.Tech in Network Engineering syllabus

 

Semester 1: Foundation Courses

1. Advanced Computer Networks 

   - OSI/TCP-IP models, routing algorithms (BGP, OSPF), QoS, MPLS, IPv6, and network traffic analysis.

2. Network Protocols and Standards 

   - Deep dive into protocols (HTTP/HTTPS, DNS, DHCP, SNMP), VLANs, VPNs, and IoT protocols (MQTT, CoAP).

3. Applied Mathematics for Networks

   - Probability, statistics, queuing theory, graph theory, and optimization techniques for network modeling.

4. Network Programming Lab 

   - Socket programming (Python/C/C++), network simulation tools (NS-3, GNS3), and packet analysis (Wireshark).

5. Elective 1 (Optional) 

   - Example: Introduction to Cybersecurity or Basics of Cloud Computing.

 

Semester 2: Core Specializations

1. Network Security 

   - Cryptography, firewalls, IDS/IPS, penetration testing, and ethical hacking.

2. Wireless and Mobile Networks 

   - 4G/5G, Wi-Fi 6, MANETs, VANETs, and IoT connectivity.

3. Cloud Computing and Virtualization 

   - SDN, NFV, AWS/Azure networking, and containerization (Docker/Kubernetes).

4. Network Design and Management Lab 

   - Configuring routers/switches (Cisco/Juniper), network monitoring (Nagios, SolarWinds), and SDN tools (OpenFlow).

5. Elective 2 

   - Example: Software-Defined Networking (SDN) or IoT Systems.

6. Seminar/Project Work

Semester 3: Advanced Topics & Dissertation Initiation

3. Dissertation Phase 1
