Semester-wise Syllabus for MSc in Agriculture 

 

Semester 1: Core Foundation Subjects

  1. Principles of Crop Production

    • Basics of agronomy, soil-plant relationships, cropping systems, and sustainable agriculture.

  2. Soil Science and Fertility Management

    • Soil chemistry, nutrient management, fertilizers, and soil conservation techniques.

  3. Agricultural Microbiology

    • Role of microbes in agriculture, biofertilizers, and soil health.

  4. Principles of Genetics and Plant Breeding

    • Mendelian genetics, hybridization, mutation breeding, and biotechnology applications.

  5. Agricultural Economics and Farm Management

    • Farm planning, cost-benefit analysis, agricultural marketing, and policies.

  6. Practical/Lab Work

    • Field experiments, soil testing, and crop breeding techniques.


Semester 2: Advanced Agricultural Sciences

  1. Agronomy of Major Crops

    • Study of cereal, pulse, oilseed, and cash crops (wheat, rice, cotton, sugarcane, etc.).

  2. Plant Pathology and Disease Management

    • Fungal, bacterial, and viral diseases, integrated pest management (IPM).

  3. Entomology and Pest Management

    • Insect classification, pest control methods, and biopesticides.

  4. Irrigation and Water Management

    • Water-use efficiency, drip irrigation, and watershed management.

  5. Agricultural Extension and Communication

Semester 3: Specialization & Electives

Students choose a specialization (e.g., Agronomy, Plant Breeding, Soil Science, Horticulture, etc.) and take advanced courses accordingly.

Semester 4: Research & Dissertation

  • Thesis/Dissertation Work (6 months)

  • Seminar & Viva Voce

    • Presentation and defense of the research work.
